Buying a Mobility Scooter

3 Wheels or 4 Wheels for Your Mobility Scooter?

Making the right choice when buying a mobility scooter is imperative as it can either be very helpful or cost you dearly.

In my view, the advantage of a four wheeled mobility scooter is only the image that it brings with it i.e. big, expensive, sturdy, outdoorsy etc. One thing that needs to be made clear is that a mobility scooter is not specifically designed for outdoor or indoor use. It is just a misconception that four wheeled mobility scooters perform better outdoors and three wheeled ones are better for indoor use.

Three wheeled mobility scooters are far easier to handle than four wheeled ones. They also prove to be more advantageous for people with long legs or big feet as three wheeled scooters have more leg space than their four wheeled counterparts.

Also when deciding to buy a mobility scooter, make sure to match your size and weight with the scooter. If you are on the heavier side, you might want to buy a bigger scooter and thus may end up buying a four wheeled one.

Care should also be taken when selecting the brand of your mobility scooter. Highly regarded companies usually bring stable products into the market as they are made to follow strict rules, regulations and standards during production. However, there are some brands (or unknown brands) that are available in the market today that noone should recommend; these are not based on any standards and are very likely to breakdown or create problems long before their useful life ends.
